This kit is our best attempt (thus far) at relocating the battery from under the bonnet of the E30 Cabriolet, to the boot, in a similar location to that of the more traditional coupe/sedan cars. BMW Engineers themselves realised the Cabriolet required a large dampening weight in this location, so why they didn’t simply install a battery here is beyond us.
The benefit of this location and our kit is that it allows for a much larger battery to be installed, than what you can typically fit under the bonnet. In our car for example, we are running a 302mm x 174mm battery. This is significantly larger than what can be safely installed under the bonnet. The tray in this kit allows for even larger batteries (~175mm wide by ~320mm long) although this becomes a very tight fit. We strongly suggest taking real measurements of any battery you want to use and possibly test fit the battery in the tray with the tie down posts in position on a bench BEFORE installing the tray.
The kit includes:
1 x locally made stainless steel battery tray
1 x ~4m length of hand cut and crimped, Australian Made 0 OR 2 B&S power cable with our own battery post to attach your standard, unmodified battery loom to.
1 x ~0.3m length of hand cut and crimped, Australian Made 0 OR 2 B&S earth cable already attached to the tray
2 x locally made battery tie down posts
1 x locally made flat bar (to go between the posts)
1 x set of hardware to install the kit from start to finish
1 x 10g tube of TefGel Anti-Seize and Assembly Lubricant
OPTIONAL EXTRA:
1 x Brand New Genuine BMW Battery Cable Bracket. To make this work, the terminal lug at the end of the cable requires some modification, which we will perform for you, before shipping your kit. Although the cabling won't look 100% OEM, once hidden under this OEM cable bracket/cover, it won't look any different.
